Training Programs
Operator Training
"I think I would be a great bus driver - I love people and I love to drive, but I don't know how to drive a bus!"
That's ok, we will teach you! MV offers operator training to all front line personnel. MV's program is one of the most comprehensive and thorough operator training programs offered. Training courses range from 96 hours to more than 126 hours (based on location and service mode) and include video, web and face-to-face classroom training. It is not uncommon to see our passengers working with MV's operators during training!
e-learning
"I know there are more things for me to learn to become a better supervisor, but no one is going to hold a training class for one person. How do I learn basic skills to be a better boss?"
It's true, not many companies have the time or resources to teach specialized management courses on a one-on-one basis. MV is the expert in passenger transportation, and we use our resources to train in what we know best - transit. For the rest, we rely on the experts in other fields. That's why we have created strategic partnerships with two e-learning solutions, which give our employees the personal training they need, in an interactive web-based training environment.
The Telephone Doctor
Customer service is paramount in any service industry. To encourage our employees to improve and hone these essential skills, MV offers the Telephone Doctor training curriculum. The six online learning modules focus on how to positively handle customer and client relationships, both in person or on the telephone.
Element K
Element K offers frontline supervisor and management personnel training in management and leadership through more than 40 learning modules. Topics ranging from how to give performance feedback to time management, have strengthened the core skill set of MV's personnel.
MV University
"I wish there was a place I could go to learn everything I need to run a great transit operation."
Welcome to Elk Horn, Iowa - home of MV University and MV's National Learning and Development center.
MV University is a week-long, high impact focused learning setting that is aimed at developing the skills of the frontline operation'ks leaders. The coursework focuses on the core building blocks of transit operations. Full day topics include: Safety Management, Human Resources, Contract and Client Relations, Maintenance Management, Risk Management, and Finance and Accounting.
The course ends with the program titled Basic Daily Duties, a class that rolls the entire week into a comprehensive plan outlining how to become a leader in transit.
Mentor Program
"I know I am ready to be a manager, but I have to admit, I'm scared. I have worked very hard for this day, and I now that it has arrived, I wish I had a friend to help me get through the first steps."
For a first time manager, we know work can be a little overwhelming. Sometimes it helps to get some advice, some guidance and some assistance - from someone who isn't "the boss". That's what MV created a Mentor Program, an informal training program where newer general managers are assigned a more experienced mentor. Mentoring promotes a healthy integration into the job, and is critical to the long term success of a new employee. MV's Mentor Program outlines the key skills that new managers must develop to quickly adjust in their new role.
